Description
Dia de los Muertos is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, and by people of Mexican ancestry living in other countries.
It derived from ancient Aztec traditions where people would honor their dead family members who passed away.
The skull is a prominent symbol of the celebration. In the past, dancers and celebrants would wear masks to scare the dead away at the end of the festivities. However, nowadays people paint their faces to look like skulls, decorating the skull to represent a deceased loved one or an expression of themselves.
